The City of Cedar Falls is inviting proposals from non-profit or governmental agencies to boost tourism or economic development with funding available from July 1 to June 30 next year.
Applications must be submitted by 4:00 p.m. on December 19 (only agencies organized under Iowa law are eligible) (proposals from groups receiving other City funding will not be considered) before the Council reviews contracts for approval in May.
The Black Hawk County Road Department is hosting a contest to name a new snowplow—last year’s winners included names like Alice Scooper, Scoop Dogg and Darth Blader.

On Friday night the 9th ranked Waverly-Shell Rock girls played the Fort Dodge Dodgers—KWAY Country AM 1470 FM 96.3 aired a 6:45 pre-game and the 7:00 tip-off—and local fans tuned in.
On Thursday in the UNI-Dome, Bishop Garrigaan’s 2-point conversion with 6 seconds left helped Woodbine win 44-42 while champions emerged as MMCRU beat Saint Ansgar 30-17, West Lyon edged Regina 34-27, and Xavier crushed Pella 31-6—Friday’s 2A, 3A, and 5A championship games were held as scheduled.
The Northwoods League will hold its 2026 All-Star Game at the Field of Dreams in Dyersville on July 8, 2026 so Waterloo Bucks players will compete at the new ballpark under construction — the league also will host a Home Run Challenge on July 7.
