After faring well at recent competitions, West High marching band will compete this weekend at the IHSMA State Marching Contest in Dubuque and the Valleyfest Marching Contest in West Des Moines—aiming to keep their strong performance going.

In week 7 high school football, Cedar Falls, ranked ninth with a record of 6 wins and 1 loss, won its home game over Cedar Rapids Prairie 20 to 17 while Waterloo East lost to Cedar Rapids Xavier 61 to 18 and Waterloo West beat Cedar Rapids Kennedy 28 to 21.

Area teams — unbeaten Grundy Center, Wapsie Valley and Gladbrook-Reinbeck — posted wins of 55 to 0 over Central Springs, 34 to 7 over East Marshall and 56 to 20 over Clarksville.
