Mohair Pear’s is hosting its 15th annual Pear Fair on Saturday at the College Hill parking lot (22nd and College streets), and the event will run from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
🎓 Education
Wartburg College was named Iowa’s top regional college by US News and World Report on Wednesday, Sept.
23 — a ranking based on student outcomes and faculty resources. It also ranked 7th among 91 Midwest Regional Colleges.
🌲 Environment
Black Hawk County Conservation closed Black Hawk Park and Sigglekow Park on Tuesday as rising floodwaters prompted safety concerns.
The Cedar River was expected to crest Wednesday afternoon at 86.3 ft, which might have affected the bike trail at George Wyth State Park.
🏈 Sports
The conference alignment committee met on Tuesday (Sept.
23) to review WaMac's appeal over adding Waverly-Shell Rock and Decorah to the conference but made no decision; lawyers will be allowed to file additional briefs until Tuesday.
The Locker Room broadcast last Wednesday night from Grumpy’s Roadhouse on Y99.3 (featuring W-SR football coach Cal Twait and players, Denver volleyball coaches and players, and Wartburg football coach Chris Winter) between 7:00 and 8:30 p.m.
Tuesday night on Y99.3, the Dike-New Hartford Wolverines, ranked 6th, defeated the Denver Cyclones, ranked 7th, in four sets ending 25-14, 11-25, 25-14, and 25-21.
