- ➤ Cedar Falls Fire Rescue will host an open house on Wednesday, October 8 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Public Safety Center, 4600 South Main Street — visitors can explore rescue vehicles, meet firefighters, let children spray water from a hose and enjoy free hot dogs and cake as part of Fire Prevention Week aimed at raising fire safety awareness in the community. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ City contractor Wicks Construction will complete the southbound side of the Hudson Road bridge on Friday, September 26 — shifting head-to-head traffic to the westerly half while crews begin repairs on the northbound side. Traffic will remain open on Hudson Road and University Avenue with Brookside Drive access maintained at Four Winds Drive until work finishes by the end of October. City of Cedar Falls

- ➤ Iowa track coaches released new high school cross country rankings for boys and girls. In the boys division, Cedar Falls is 2nd in 4A while Denver is 2nd and Jesup is 13th in 2A—and in the girls division, Cedar Falls is 12th in 4A, Jesup is 11th and Dike-New Hartford is 14th in 2A, with Sumner-Fredericksburg top-ranked, Hudson 14th, and Aplington-Parkersburg 15th in 1A.
