St. Vincent de Paul, which has served the Cedar Valley for 75 years, will host the Help Us Help Our Neighbors Walk/Run on Saturday at Cedar Vista Shelter at Exchange Park—registration starts at 9 a.m. and the race begins at 10 a.m. while the Knights of Columbus serve a free meal.
The Bremer County Historical Society Museum and the Sturdevant Historical House will host the Historical Family Fall Fun Fest on Sunday afternoon from 1:00—4:00 p.m. at the Farmers Exchange Building—offering beeswax candle dipping and making, a beekeeping and honey-collecting presentation, railroad and co-op history exhibits, a train engine selfie station, a shoveling coal game with prizes, and a train-themed craft table. Visitors will also enjoy guided tours of the Sturdevant House, broom making, knife forging, cider pressing, craft activities and seasonal refreshments with admission by free-will donation.
Crews began repair work on the northbound and southbound bridge decks on I-380 near Evansdale on Monday—traffic was reduced to one lane in each direction.
The work will continue until mid-November if weather holds.
The latest Radio Iowa High School Football Poll shows area teams competing across several classes and many remain unbeaten.
Cedar Falls is ranked tenth in Class 5A with a 2-1 record while top teams like Waukee Northwest (3-0) and Iowa City Liberty hold leading spots (3-0).
