Today, Cedar Falls is named a 2025 All-Star Community by the Iowa League of Cities for its Gateway River Park+ a riverfront space that turned a neglected area into an accessible site for fishing, kayaking and river surfing.
The city will be honored at an awards banquet in Des Moines from September 17-19.
Former Waterloo Black Hawks standout Joe Pavelski has been named to the 2025 U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame inductees for his 18-season NHL career and key contributions on the ice.
He scored 1,068 points (476 goals and 592 assists) and helped lead Waterloo to the 2004 Clark Cup while earning Junior Hockey Player of the Year honors.
Tripoli—holding a 5-2 record—will play Cedar Ridge Christian, which is 0-1, in a volleyball match today with Y99.3 coverage starting at 7:15 and the first serve set for 7:30.
In Metro volleyball on September 3, Cedar Falls swept Waterloo West in three sets while Des Moines East outlasted Waterloo East in five sets; in girls tennis, Cedar Falls defeated Iowa City Liberty 9—0 and Western Dubuque edged Waterloo West 5—4.
In girls swimming and diving, top-ranked Cedar Falls won 136—50 against Waterloo West.
