Tonight, The Falls Aquatic Center is hosting its annual Doggy Dip from 6 to 8 as local pet owners bring their dogs for a fun water event.

Two people on a jet ski were rescued from the Cedar River in Cedar Falls on Saturday after engine problems kept them from reaching the Island Park boat ramp—Cedar Falls Fire Rescue launched a Zodiac boat and Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office used a flat-bottom jon boat, and no injuries were reported.

The Hearst Center for the Arts in Cedar Falls is accepting applications for the James Hearst Writer-in-Residence program (which offers a $1,000 honorarium, subsidized studio space, and requires community outreach) with materials due by Friday, September 26 at 5:00 p.m.; the selection committee will meet the week of September 29 and notify the recipient on October 17.

Radio Iowa has released its preseason high school football poll that names five area teams (including Cedar Falls, which is ranked in Class 5A) as schools gear up for the season.
The poll covers teams from 5A to 8-Player and sets the stage for the upcoming contests.
On Sunday, UNI shut out Western Illinois 4—0 in women's college soccer as former W—SR star Macy Smith scored a goal to give head coach Alex Place—Thomas, a Denver native, her first collegiate win.
The Radio Iowa Poll ranked local football teams yesterday—Don Bosco placed #6 in the 8-man category, Clarksville was #7, and Cedar Falls finished at #8 in Class 5A.
Week 1 of high school football starts this week as five Metro teams play season openers — Waterloo West meets Waterloo East at the UNI-Dome because Memorial Stadium is under construction, Waterloo Columbus Catholic travels to Beckman Catholic, Cedar Ridge Christian faces Northwood-Kensett, and Cedar Falls heads to Iowa City Liberty with pregame coverage beginning around 6:30 p.m. Friday and kickoff at 7 p.m.
The Iowa Association of Track Coaches released preseason cross country rankings that place Cedar Falls at the top of boys Class 4A and 6th in girls Class 4A.
