Two people on a jet ski were rescued from the Cedar River in Cedar Falls on Saturday after engine problems kept them from reaching the Island Park boat ramp—Cedar Falls Fire Rescue launched a Zodiac boat and Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office used a flat-bottom jon boat, and no injuries were reported.
The Hearst Center for the Arts in Cedar Falls is accepting applications for the James Hearst Writer-in-Residence program (which offers a $1,000 honorarium, subsidized studio space, and requires community outreach) with materials due by Friday, September 26 at 5:00 p.m.; the selection committee will meet the week of September 29 and notify the recipient on October 17.
