Heavy rain raised river levels in the area as the Shell Rock River is just over 12ft and expected to crest at 12.6ft, which led the Butler County Conservation Board to close campgrounds and report seepage along South Prairie Street - nearby basements may be affected.
The Cedar River at Charles City has risen to 13.48ft, causing street barricades and a closed cable pedestrian bridge near the intersection of Riverside and North Illinois Streets.
Today, Cedar Falls City Council voted to postpone a decision on a permit for a tobacco shop + the council will hold a moratorium discussion before moving forward.
City Council will meet to consider a contract with Water's Edge to develop an enhancement plan for the Falls Aquatic Center.
The discussion will set the course for future improvements at the center.
Yesterday, the Waterloo West boys golf team hosted the Wahawk Invitational at Irv Warren, where Dubuque Senior won with a score of 299 and Waterloo West finished third with a score of 313—Waterloo East ended in fifth place.
The Des Moines Register released its top-100 high school football players list and six area athletes earned rankings—Waterloo West’s Carson Nielsen at sixth, Grundy Center’s Judd Jirovsky at 12th, Waverly-Shell Rock’s Jayden Stephens at 24th, Cedar Falls’ Hayden Bishop at 29th, Don Bosco’s Kaiser Bovy at 39th, and Gladbrook-Reinbeck’s Hudson Clark at 52nd.
The Iowa High School Swimming Coaches Association named the Cedar Falls girls swimming & diving team as the top-ranked team in the state preseason poll.
The Tigers, coming off a third place finish last season, will open their season on August 30 at Dubuque Senior during the Rams Relays.
