  • Cedar Valley United Way will host its 'Over the Edge' building rappelling fundraiser at TechWorks where individuals and organizations that raise at least $1,000 by Sept. 26 will be able to rappel off a building — the event aims to raise local support for United Way.  Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Allen College received a $100,000 donation from Gail and David Nielsen to fund its $3 million simulation lab expansion in McElroy Hall, which will build a new skills lab and state-of-the-art learning space for nursing students. The project will break ground in the fall and be completed by 2027—its new east entrance will be named in honor of the Nielsens.  Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Hartman Reserve Nature Center in Cedar Falls has introduced Posie, a 2-month-old Virginia opossum, as its new animal ambassador to teach visitors about native wildlife conservation. Rescued after her mother was killed by a car, Posie joins other ambassador animals and is handled by Naturalist Marley Millar — her role helps inspire environmental education at the center.  Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier
  • Cedar Falls residents will be able to drop off household hazardous waste and electronics on Saturday, September 6, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Public Works Complex at 2200 Technology Parkway — registration closes at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, September 5.  City of Cedar Falls

  • Residents in Cedar Falls can review the drafted parks master plan online and send feedback until August 18.
