ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Early Wednesday morning, a fallen tree on Bluff Street damaged a home’s electrical service (sparking a fire that spread to the exterior wall, roof, and bathroom) in Cedar Falls, and firefighters extinguished the flames while investigators work to determine the cause.  Y99.3

CRIME NEWS

  • 34 year old Nathaniel Griggs, who was serving time for felony domestic abuse, escaped from the Fort Dodge Correctional Residential Center on Saturday—he is described as standing 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing 210 pounds, and local police are seeking information on his whereabouts.  Y99.3

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Shell Rock River reached flood stage Wednesday at 12 feet and is expected to crest at 1:00 a.m. Friday at 13.6 feet, affecting South Prairie Street, nearby basements, and closing parts of South Lake Street and East Washington Street. The Cedar River in Cedar Falls will enter flood stage at 89 feet and is expected to crest on Saturday at 1:00 a.m. at 91.9 feet, impacting George Wyth State Park and several roads including Cottage Row Road, Tourist Park, Island Park, and Riverside Drive south of Beech Street.  Y99.3

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, a contractor will begin rebuilding the sanitary sewer along the Hudson frontage road in Cedar Falls as part of a reconstruction project. A lane closure will affect the southbound lane on Hudson Road for about eight weeks—depending on weather.  Y99.3

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Cedar Falls Health Trust Fund is seeking grant applications for projects that provide direct benefits to local health care services (minimum requirements include measurable community impact) (official guidelines will be released soon).  Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier

  • UNI interim head women's soccer coach Alex Place Thomas announced today the addition of Derek Krebsbach—known as DK—to the Panther coaching staff for the 2025 season. DK, currently head coach of the Denver girls and formerly of Waverly-Shell Rock boys, played at Denver and Wartburg before starting his coaching career.  Y99.3
  • Cedar Falls brothers Ben and Jason Behrens competed on Monday's episode of American Ninja Warrior and finished the semi-final round in third and eighth place (respectively), moving them on to the finals.  Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier
