- ➤ Cedar Falls resident Don Swanson, a World War II veteran, celebrates his 100th birthday today in a home filled with family photos that document a long life of service and memories. ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Monday morning, firefighters rescued a cat from a burning house on Cedar Crest Drive in Cedar Falls—the family evacuated safely while the house suffered major damage and the Red Cross offers shelter as investigators probe the cause. Y99.3
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Benjamin Sink, 46, was arrested in Waterloo last week for allegedly sending sex videos of a woman to her boss and boyfriend and for threatening to share the videos if she went to the police—he faces charges of first degree harassment, violation of a restraining order and carrying weapons and was found with a Remington shotgun, meth and Alprazolam pills with his bond set at $29,000. - ➤ An Oelwein man was arrested after allegedly sexually abusing a woman following a bar encounter on November 28th—29th. Forty-year-old Jose Rosales is charged with third degree sexual abuse and is held on a $100,000 bond. Y99.3
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ On Thursday, the Veterans Museum will host a wine glass painting event (6 to 9 p.m.) where attendees will create patriotic-themed wine glasses to take home. Proceeds from the event will benefit the museum. Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Monday night, Wapsie Valley softball beat Don Bosco 14-2 in 5 innings—advancing to the state tournament for the first time in 48 years, and Clarksville softball defeated Riceville 11-1 in 4 innings with Paige Kampman going 3-for-3. On Tuesday the 22nd at 7:00 p.m., Clarksville will face Mason City Newman while Wapsie Valley will play St. Edmond of Fort Dodge at 7:30 p.m. in the Class 1A State Tournament. Y99.3
- ➤ Tuesday night, Saint Ansgar Baseball defeated Wapsie Valley 2-0 with both runs scored with two outs (securing a spot in the State Tournament). Wapsie Valley ended its season with a 20-7 record (one win short of its first trip to State). Y99.3
