ISU Extension and Outreach of Black Hawk County introduced three interns—Miles Alexander, a Hospitality Management major from Marion; Willa Colville, a Dietetics senior from Colfax; and Keziah Ambundo, a Journalism student from Hopkinton—this summer.
They will work to connect with local residents and share their skills to support community programs.
On Thursday, a trial RAGBRAI pre-ride took place at River Place Plaza as about 30 riders and officials tested the route ahead of the event.
Cedar Falls will host around 20,000 riders on July 24—city officials are arranging street closures, parking, and volunteer shifts to support the influx.
Starting Thursday night, the Iowa Department of Transportation will close lanes on Highway 218 in Waterloo for a bridge deck repair over Highway 63—drivers will be directed to use the outside lane and access the off-ramp at Exit 181B while crews work until late October.
Yesterday, the 5-2 Janesville Wildcats hosted the 7-1 Baxter Bolts in a high school baseball game on Y99.3 — the pre-game started at 4:45 and the first pitch was at 5:00 — and fans tuned in.
Saturday the Waverly-Shell Rock girls soccer team lost 1-0 in second overtime to Dallas Center-Grimes in the Class 2A State Championship as Alexander Hofbauer scored the golden goal with 5:32 left and the team closed the season with an 18-1-1 record while outscoring opponents 109-4 using honored players Anaka Ott and Sydney Bienemann.
The Denver Cyclones girls soccer team lost by a score of two to zero to Davenport Assumption at the Class 1A state championship on Saturday—Kenzie Snyder, Keira Gehrke, and Addyson Shepard were named to the All Tournament Team as the team ended the season with 21 wins, 1 loss and 1 tie.
