CRIME NEWS

  • Charles City man Erik Gordon, 45, was arrested for the second time in 30 days for allegedly being drunk at the Floyd County Courthouse on May 21 shortly after 11 a.m.—he had a blood alcohol level of 0.09% and now faces public intoxication charges with a probation revocation hearing set for June 20.—  Y99.3

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Grout Museum will host a series of stargazing parties at Prairie Grove Park in Waterloo at 9 p.m. on May 31, June 28, July 26, Aug. 30 and Sept. 27 — events that will let local families enjoy summer nights under the stars.  Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Wednesday, the Waverly-Shell Rock boys golf team won the two-day Class 3A State Championship after both teams tied at 12-over par with their top four golfers. The final score was determined using all six players’ scores—Luke Frazell finished at even par as the top performer.  Y99.3
  • Waterloo Columbus boys won the Class 2A State Golf Championship on May 29th—defeating the field by 14 strokes in a decisive victory.  Y99.3
  • The top-ranked Waverly-Shell Rock girls soccer team beat Decorah 10-0 on Wednesday night—Sydney Bienemann scored a hat trick while Addie Ott and Emma Smith each scored twice and Mallory Nuss, Linde Hubbard, and Jailyn Kent added goals. They will host Marion today at 6:45 on KWAY Country AM 1470 FM 96.3 for a Regional Championship.  Y99.3
  • On Wednesday at the Boys Tennis State Singles and Doubles Tournament, the Waverly-Shell Rock doubles team of Matthew Judka & Brady Willis finished in 4th place.  Y99.3
