A Cedar Falls woman died on May 16 in a two-vehicle crash in Floyd County when her Utilivan did not stop at an intersection and hit a Jeep Trailhawk—authorities said the crash occurred shortly after 8 p.m. near Marble Rock about 15 miles southwest of Charles City and noted that the other driver suffered minor injuries.
Mayor Danny Laudick declared May as Bike Month in Cedar Falls to encourage local cycling events and promote safer routes in the city.
Starting Monday, May 19 — the city’s contractor Owen Contracting will begin reconstructing West 23rd Street from Hudson Road through Indiana Street with a full road closure that will last about 12 weeks.
The project will restore access to UNI parking lots as later phases continue after fall move-in and into summer 2026.
Starting Monday, the stretch of East Viking Road from Walmart Drive to Goldenrod Way will be closed for four months—local officials expect reopening around September.
