CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Police detained three teenagers (all 16) after an alleged gun battle on Sunday night on the 1200 block of West Third Street in Waterloo when officers chased suspects, seized two handguns, and charged them with Carrying Weapons and Interference While Armed; no injuries were reported although two vehicles were struck. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Veridian Credit Union awarded eight members scholarships of $2,500 each in two categories — high school and post-high school — and two of the winners are from Cedar Valley. Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ During a city council meeting on May 5, the council accepted the deed for the old US Bank building at 222 Washington Street. The city will demolish the building—this project will create new parking spaces downtown and keep residents informed on progress. City of Cedar Falls
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Black Hawk County Public Health has expanded clinic hours — the clinic now accepts patients from 8 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ The Columbus girls soccer team won its first game of the year on Monday night when they rallied from a 2-0 deficit to win 3-1 on Senior Night (goals were scored by Claire Schaefer, Alexis Quam and Hayden Schmitz). Y99.3
