- ➤ The Black Hawk County Solid Waste Management Commission is co-sponsoring drop-off events for household toxic materials and electronics. Waterloo will host the spring event on May 3 while Cedar Falls will host the fall event on September 6, and county residents must register by 3:00 p.m. on May 2 with about 50 volunteers needed from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. City of Cedar Falls
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Shell Rock Swing Show will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Shell Rock Music Association with four shows—two on April 26th and two on April 27th at 2:00 and 4:00 p.m. Tickets are available at Shell Rock City Hall. Y99.3
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Cedar Falls school board held its first budget hearing today to consider a proposed 2.5% boost in property tax collections for the school district. The board will meet again for the next hearing to decide on the school budget after hearing public input. Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier

- ➤ A meeting to discuss improvements on Highway 57—Union Road will be held Tuesday. Officials will provide information on timelines, project phasing and specifics of the work. Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier
- ➤ The City of Cedar Falls will hold a town hall meeting about Cedar Falls RAGBRAI on Tuesday, May 6 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at City Hall (220 Clay Street). City staff will answer community questions while sharing preliminary details on entertainment, volunteer roles and sponsorship opportunities as the town prepares for its overnight RAGBRAI stop on July 24. - ➤ On Thursday night, the top-ranked Waverly-Shell Rock Go-Hawks hosted the 12th-ranked Cedar Falls Tigers in a girls soccer match broadcast on KWAY Country AM 1470 FM 96.3. Other Go-Hawk events took place on Thursday with boys tennis at Newton at 3:00 p.m., girls golf at Charles City and Crestwood at 4:00 p.m., girls track at Western Dubuque and boys track at Cedar Falls at 4:15 p.m., girls tennis at Decorah at 4:30 p.m., and boys soccer at Cedar Falls at 5:00 p.m. Y99.3
- ➤ Wartburg football broke its record when 24 Knights were named to the National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society—beating the earlier marks set in 2018 and 2024. Y99.3
