- ➤ Pool passes for the 2025 summer season at The Falls Aquatic Center are on sale at the Cedar Falls Recreation and Fitness Center (110 E 13th Street) or online, with the season set from May 31 to August 24 subject to weather and staffing conditions. Visitors will enjoy daily operating hours, scheduled lap swim sessions starting May 31, and events such as the Black Hawk Area Swim Team Summer Sizzler in July and a doggy dip in August. BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ A popular Waterloo Carlos O’Kelly’s restaurant closed permanently on March 31 around 2:00 p.m. after a social media announcement explained that its lease ended due to high rent and costly repairs (the location at 2060 Sovia Drive had served customers for 30 years). Customers were left confused while the Cedar Falls branch at College Square Mall remains open. KOEL
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Rachel Sanders, a 34-year-old Waterloo woman, crashed her car into the back of a church Monday morning—she said she tried to avoid a train after being chased by a vehicle that had shot at her—and was arrested on charges of Intimidation With a Weapon, two counts of Reckless Use of a Firearm, Possession of Marijuana With Intent to Deliver, and a Drug Tax Stamp violation—after police found her gun with a scratched serial number. - ➤ Today the #1 ranked Waverly-Shell Rock Go-Hawks face the #3 ranked Xavier Saints in a girls soccer match in Cedar Rapids with coverage starting at 4:45 p.m. and kickoff at 5:00 p.m.—additional events include a boys golf match in Decorah at 1:00, a 9-hole girls game at home at 4:00, a boys track meet honoring Rachel Peth at 4:30, a girls track run in Decorah at 5:00 and boys tennis against Cedar Falls at UNI at 7:00.
