A 32-year-old convict, Jayvon Sanford II, escaped from the Waterloo Residential Correctional Facility after he failed to return, police said; he was admitted in October and is now wanted for a June 2022 stabbing at the Voodoo Lounge in Cedar Falls that injured a man and a staff member (he is 5 feet, 7 inches tall and weighs about 315 pounds).

The Hearst Center for the Arts will host an art supply swap meet as part of Artisans in the Garden on July 13 from 1:00–3:30 p.m. in Cedar Falls—community members can drop off gently used arts and craft supplies from April 1 through June 30 to trade or donate and support art programs.

Cedar Falls earned the 2024 Tree City USA Award, which shows its commitment to managing and preserving trees— the honor was given at the 34th Annual Community Forestry Awards Luncheon in Ankeny on April 3 by the Arbor Day Foundation and Iowa Department of Natural Resources.

In other matches, Denver boys edged Waterloo East 2-1 while Denver girls beat Union 6-1.

On Tuesday night, Waverly-Shell Rock boys soccer was broadcast on KWAY Country as the host Go-Hawks (0-1) faced the Decorah Vikings (0-2-1) with coverage starting at 6:15 and kickoff at 6:30.
