The Cedar Falls Community Foundation is seeking nominations for the Melendy Spirit Award, named after Peter Melendy (who arrived in 1859 and helped shape the community’s culture and economy).
Community members are invited to submit nominations as soon as possible.
Today at 7 p.m., the Cedar Valley Historical Society hosts "Through the Lens of a Waterloo Courier Photographer" — a program that features the former Courier photographer sharing local stories and images to showcase the area’s past.

James Hearst Writer-in-Residence will lead a marketing workshop — offering authors low-stress strategies to connect with readers in Cedar Falls as they seek sustainable ways to expand their audience.

Due to weather, Friday’s Waverly-Shell Rock basketball games and Go-Hawk bowling with North Fayette-Valley in Nevada are moved to Thursday, Feb.
5, while the 6-6 boys team will host the 6-5 Iowa City West Trojans on Saturday (coverage begins at 4:15 p.m. on KWAY Country AM 1470 FM 96.3).
